Academic learning focuses on school readiness skills and aims to prepare children for the Kindergarten setting. Teachers in our daycare lead the children in a more structured way, planning the activities, then guiding the children in doing them. Childcare includes teachers guiding kids through a theme-based curriculum, introducing them to several subjects including math, reading, writing, science and nature. At our day care center, sometimes teachers complete whole-class lessons or activities, though these are shorter and more interactive than what you’ll find in the upper level school years.
A play-based childcare approach embraces giving children time to carry out their own ideas through play and involves both child-initiated and teacher-supported learning. The daycare teacher encourages children’s learning and inquiry by providing them with stimulating, imaginative ways to play and assisting them in their exploration. By interacting at the day care center with their peers in different settings the children learn to become more independent, mature and capable. They also learn to reason, reflect, and solve problems.
When children learn positive life lessons at our day care center through sports, there is no doubt they will become honest, reliable adults who will try to help others in need. Children at childcare programs should participate in sports to develop their physical and intellectual skills, not for instant success and results. Forcing a child to play sports may create a counter-effect and as a result make them develop an aversion to sports in general. A unique sport curriculum is encompassed in the children’s daily daycare schedule that assists in the development of the child’s fine and gross motor skills, as well as growing their psychological and sociological well-being. Our daily sports activities are taught on our indoor turf field, located adjacent to the children’s classrooms, as well as ice skating lessons on the NY Islanders state of the art ice rink.
Research indicates that children who are mentally healthy tend to be happier, show greater motivation to learn, have a more positive attitude toward school, more eagerly participate in class activities, and demonstrate higher academic performance than less mentally healthy peers. Childcare centers provide children with an early start to these skills. Teachers and caregivers at Allstar's day care center promotes children’s social and emotional health by establishing trusting relationships, created when teachers express warmth, affection, and respect. Teachers at the daycare can intentionally teach and enhance these skills using evidence-based strategies to teach, model, and reinforce positive behaviors.
